The Anarchy Tour

Every punk book you will ever read, in fact any music book worth its worth, every punk TV programmme, every nostaligic look back starts the Sex Pistols - supported by the Clash and The Buzzcocks - on the infamous Anarchy Tour, December 1976. You have read the text, heard the opinion, now you can LISTEN TO WHAT ALL THE FUSS WAS ABOUT.

From the opening night on the 3 December to the 19th December the Tour was banned from all but three venues, Leeds Polytechnic on the 6th, Manchesters Electric Circus on the 9th and Caerphilly on the 14th. This CD is the definitive audio version of the Anarchy Tour. A must have.

This 2 CD set
From the most famous tour ever - The infamous 1976 Anarchy Tour - this 2 CD set features the Sex Pistols, The Clash and the Buzzcocks from Manchesters Electric Circus on the 9th December 1976. This fabulous 2CD set also includes the full Sex Pistols performance at Leeds Polytechnic 3 days earlier. The sound quality is 'as good as it gets' for these two gigs and captures clearly these two famous gigs.

Re-live the drama of it all. The Bonus material captures the infamous Grundy Today Programme, The Statement by Derbyshire County Council, Malcolm Mclarens interview on Yorkshire TV and the interview with the Dean of Leeds Polytechnic as well as the Caerphillly demonstration.

Totally epic Buzzcocks gig! Totalling 42 songs.

Three line ups, billed as the current (set 1), the classic (set 2) and original (set 3)
with Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle performing in all three. Good going considering!
Set 1 is full of songs from the albums since their reformation (and a few new ones).
Set 2 is full of songs from the first three albums prior to the split, with the appropriate line up.
Set 3 is Spiral Scratch EP + an encore of I Can't Control Myself with the line up that recorded those songs.

Need I say more.
If you're a Buzzcocks fan you'll know what this means. If you don't know much about them, this is a great document of their history.

The mix up at the end was unusually down to Pete Shelley, who seemed intent on playing I Can't Control Myself instead of Friends Of Mine. At first I thought it was some fancy hybrid but when John Maher left his drums to settle the matter it became clear it was a mix up.

The recording sounds great I think, great bass to it. I did my best considering the austerity of the occasion. And again thanks go to PontiacB for the loan of his rig.

The Apollo is a big old theatre just outside Manchester city centre. Standing capacity of 3000, and although it wasn't sold out, it was close I'd say. Nice venue, ceiling mounted stacks, high stage, sloped floor. But poor bar as expected in this type of place, and I got patted down on the way in, probably my own fault as I was one of the few wearing a jacket on a hot Manc night.

The bands 2nd gig.

Personel:
As for above demos but Dave Formula replaced Bob Dickinson on keyboards

What can I say? This band were phenominal and these early recordings were given to me by Martin Jackson (Bless you for that, Martin), who I was friendly with for a number of years through to his
Swing Out Sister days. He then relocated and went onto other things. Oh, how we used to laugh...
Anyway, The demos are just that, a raw but controlled run through of material that ended up on their first 'CLASSIC' album, 'Real Life'. The live tracks were recorded at THE club in Manchester that was the home of most of the early punk activity. The recording was made with a view to having one track included on the 10" vinly album 'Short Circuit:Live At The Elctric Circus' but for one reason or another none of the tracks made it. For those of you who may not remember the album culled tracks by The Fall, Joy Division when they were know as Warsaw, Buzzcocks, the brillliant John Coope Clarke, Steel Pulse and The Drones recorded over the final weekend that the club was open. I am a little dubious of the date of the recording as on the tape Martin gave me it was clearly written that it was 2nd Nov 1977. But I have seen reference to the album that states that it was October. Anyone with definite confirmation of which is correct please let me know. I believe it to be the November gig as Magazine played their first gig in October(28th I think) and their Electric Circus gig was definitely after that. On the tape he gave me was also the first Peel Session which I have not included here as it has been officially released on the stunning box set 'Maybe It's Right To Be Nervous Now'.

The quality is pretty good and I'm sure you will enjoy it. I did some artwork but the back cover does contain info on the first Peel session that I put on my own disc as it was on the orig tape. Maybe you can still use it or rework one.

Share & spread the magic to the uninitiated.
